A healthier planet.

SUMMARY

Rail is good for people & our planet

Rail is better for our planet. Due to the reduced friction of steel wheels on steel track, and with the ability to carry large volumes of people and freight, trains are among the most energy efficient modes of transport.

Trains also connect people to nature, health services, and each other...improving the health and wellbeing of people.

Climate action

Rail provides a sustainable and climate friendly method of transport across the country. It provides the opportunity for people to reduce their carbon footprint. More people on trains also means less road maintenance, saving money and reducing resource depletion.

Connection with nature

Trains can bring our diverse country together by connecting people and landscapes across wide distances. Despite living in a beautiful country which prides itself on its natural environment, nature is inaccessible to many. Rail connects cities to rural areas and parks with Tongariro and Arthur's Pass being two prominent examples. We envisage a future where people can easily reconnect with nature without needing to drive huge distances.
