Getting The Southerner back on track!

Save Our Trains Ōtepoti - Dunedin is supporting a campaign to get a regular passenger train going between Invercargill, Dunedin & Christchurch.

The aim is for modern trains to run on the line – like the hybrid diesel/electric trains now being bought for longer distance passenger rail in the North Island.

The trains will have comfortable seats, café facilities, disabled access, bike carrying areas, tables, wifi, charging points and toilets.

All this is achievable. What's missing is the political will.

Save Our Trains Ōtepoti Dunedin

Who are we?

We are part of the Save Our Trains/The Future Is Rail nationwide network in New Zealand, and are based in Dunedin, Otago, but support, promote and advocate for passenger rail initiatives, as well as wider public transport issues, throughout New Zealand and worldwide.

What we do.

We campaign for the reinstatement of passenger rail in the South Island. This includes public meetings, actions, submissions, and lobbying. We also publish blogs and articles covering these issues, and have a growing gallery of passenger rail, public transport and related photos and graphics.
